Falaj Al Hazza School Area Traffic Impact Study, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi

Project Introduction

The Falaj Al Hazza School block, located in Al Ain, comprises five mixed-use schools collectively generating over 1,500 trips during peak periods. In response to a request from the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), a comprehensive Traffic Impact Study was conducted to assess and address the traffic challenges associated with the area. The study focused on improving traffic operations and ensuring smoother mobility for students, parents, and staff.

Challenges

The high volume of school-related trips during pick-up and drop-off periods created significant congestion, affecting up to 16 key junctions surrounding the school area. The challenge was to manage these surges in traffic effectively while maintaining accessibility and safety for all road users. Coordinating multiple stakeholders, including the ITC and school authorities, added further complexity to the study.

Solution

The study included area-wide traffic data collection, including detailed school pick-up and drop-off surveys. An extensive traffic analysis was performed to assess the impact on the surrounding junctions, identifying bottlenecks and potential solutions. Trublu provided operational recommendations to reduce car traffic in the school area, such as implementing staggered school timings based on the traffic analysis findings. These measures, developed in close coordination with Al Ain ITC, aim to enhance traffic flow and safety in the Falaj Al Hazza School block.
