Etihad Rail Freight Facility Junction 2 Analysis

Etihad-Rail-Freight-Facility-Junction-2-Analysis

Project Introduction

The proposed Etihad Rail Freight Facility is located approximately 45 km from Abu Dhabi City. The facility is a critical component of the Etihad Rail network, designed to enhance freight transportation in the region. It features two site access points, with Junction 2 situated at the northeast corner of the facility. This analysis follows a Traffic Impact Study which evaluated the operational feasibility of Junction 2.

Challenges

The STEAM traffic model for the region was recently updated, and minor design modifications were made to Junction 2 after the original TIS approval. These changes raised concerns regarding the junction’s capacity and operational efficiency under the revised traffic conditions. ITC requested a verification study to ensure that Junction 2 could handle the projected traffic volumes from the updated STEAM model, considering both site traffic and background traffic.

Solution

This report provides a summary of the traffic analysis conducted for Junction 2, incorporating the updated traffic flows from the revised STEAM model and the modified junction design layout. The analysis evaluated the operational performance of the junction and confirmed its ability to manage the projected traffic volumes effectively. The study ensures compliance with ITC requirements and supports the functional integration of Junction 2 within the overall freight facility network.
